Fukuoka Art Museum

The Fukuoka Art Museum is defined by the dark, textured brick tiles embedded directly into its concrete exterior, a distinct design choice by architect Kunio Maekawa that creates a sharp contrast against the greenery of Ohori Park. Opened in November nineteen seventy-nine, the museum sits on land once belonging to the former Fukuoka Castle. It houses a diverse collection of roughly sixteen thousand items, ranging from ancient Buddhist statues and tea ceremony utensils to works by twentieth-century masters like Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Marc Chagall.
