Fukuoka Castle Ruins

The massive stone walls of Fukuoka Castle Ruins rise from the green landscape of Maizuru Park, marking the site of what was once the largest castle complex in Kyushu. Constructed between sixteen oh one and sixteen oh seven by the daimyo Kuroda Nagamasa, the sprawling fortress served as the center of power for the Kuroda clan for over two centuries. Its defensive scale was so formidable that fellow lord Kato Kiyomasa reportedly dubbed it the Stone Castle for its immense, expertly crafted ramparts.
