Ohori Park

Ohori Park is defined by a large, tranquil pond that occupies nearly half of its forty-hectare grounds. This expansive body of water is a remnant of the outer defensive moat once built for Fukuoka Castle in the early seventeenth century. When the lord of the Kuroda clan, Kuroda Nagamasa, began castle construction in sixteen oh one, he reclaimed a marshland called Kusagae to create the moat, which he named Ohori—literally meaning great moat.
