Live and Kissa Showa is a basement performance space in the Tenjin district of Fukuoka that opened its doors on November twenty-first, nineteen seventy. The venue is recognizable by the series of posters featuring famous musicians lining the staircase that leads down from the street. An educator founded the space during an era of intense student protests, choosing the name to combine the era name Showa with a word meaning to illuminate, reflecting a desire to use music to bring clarity and light to a restless youth.
