Kushida Shrine is defined by the massive, thousand-year-old ginkgo tree standing near its gate, a sacred landmark whose golden leaves blanket the grounds every autumn. Known to locals as Okushida-san, this site has served as the guardian shrine of Hakata since its founding in seven hundred fifty-seven. It became a vital spiritual anchor for the port city during centuries of trade with China and Korea.
