Sekijozan Myorakuji Temple is distinguished by its classic Hakata-bei wall, a traditional earth wall built from repurposed roof tiles and stones retrieved from the ruins of old buildings. This Rinzai Zen temple, founded in thirteen sixteen by the monk Getsudo Soki, was originally positioned along the shores of Hakata Bay. From the water, the structure once appeared as a stone fortress, earning it the mountain name Sekijozan, or stone castle mountain.
