Kyukyodo is marked by a facade of charred timber screens and board-formed concrete on Teramachi Street. Founded in sixteen sixty-three as a pharmacy, the shop transitioned into a specialist for incense, calligraphy supplies, and washi paper. Its long history of craft led to its role as the official stationer for the Imperial Household from eighteen ninety-one until nineteen forty-five.
