The Centro Cultural Bella Época is identifiable by the tall, original minaret-style tower that rises above the street corner of Tamaulipas and Benjamin Hill. Originally built as the Cine Lido in nineteen forty-two, the structure reflects a blend of Art Deco, Spanish Revival, and Mudéjar influences designed by the American architect Charles Lee. After operating as a cinema for decades, the building fell into disuse before being acquired by the Mexican government.
