The Christchurch Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre appears as a long, white, glass-walled structure with a distinctive saw-tooth roofline. Designed by Patterson Associates and completed in twenty thirteen, the building mimics the form of an industrial greenhouse, using modular post-and-beam construction to create a series of airy, light-filled spaces. Patterned pre-cast concrete and fritted glass panels across the ceilings and walls cast a dappled light effect, intended to evoke the feeling of standing beneath a forest canopy.
