Hagley Park North

park garden

Hagley Park North is defined by its sprawling, flat landscape and a perimeter of mature trees that stand against the city skyline. Reserved for public use in eighteen fifty-five by the Provincial Government, the park was intended to serve as a permanent recreational space for the city’s residents. It takes its name from the ancestral country estate of Lord Lyttelton, who served as chairman of the Canterbury Association during the early settlement of Christchurch.
