Al Mirani Fort

Al Mirani Fort stands on a high rocky outcrop overlooking the harbor of Old Muscat, recognizable by its pale stone walls that anchor the western side of the bay. This fortification began as a simple tower before the Portuguese reconstructed and expanded it in fifteen eighty-seven to defend the harbor against naval threats. It was the first fort in Oman to utilize cannons.
