Muscat Gate Museum

The Muscat Gate Museum occupies the structure that straddles the road between the city's waterfront Corniche and the historic walled district. It is positioned where an official gateway once regulated all movement into old Muscat, serving as a point that was locked firmly after sunset to restrict entry and exit. While the original barrier functioned until the nineteen seventies to protect the city from land-bound threats, the current stone monument and museum were opened in January two thousand one.
