Chunxi Road is a pedestrian shopping district in central Chengdu, marked by a dense concentration of luxury malls, traditional snack shops, and a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in the central Zhongshan Square. Originally constructed in nineteen twenty-four under the direction of Sichuan governor Yang Sen, the project sought to connect two established commercial hubs, Dongda Street and the Shangye Chang market. The name itself, suggested by a scholar named Jiang Ziyu, draws from the Tao Te Ching to evoke a scene of flourishing commerce and people gathering in a spring breeze.
