The Gendun Qunpei Memorial Hall in Lhasa preserves the legacy of Gendun Chopel, a figure often described as the most influential Tibetan intellectual of the twentieth century. Born in nineteen oh three, he was a philosopher, artist, and historian who challenged traditional religious and political dogmas. After spending twelve years traveling across India and the Himalayan borderlands, he returned to Lhasa in nineteen forty-six, only to be arrested on charges of distributing counterfeit currency.
