Mercado Beira-Rio

The Mercado Beira-Rio sits on the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia, marked by its long, low architecture that stretches along the Douro riverbank. Its history began in eighteen sixty-eight, when local traders sold goods in the open air at the Cais da Vila. The current building took shape in nineteen oh four, originally housing a bustling fish market that served the community and the broader Porto area.
