Tamsui Customs Officers' Residence

landmark

The Tamsui Customs Officers' Residence, locally known as the Little White House, is a colonial-style bungalow easily identified by its stark, ash-white exterior walls and a series of semi-circular arched columns along its verandas. Built in eighteen seventy, the residence sits on an elevated foundation designed with square ventilation holes to allow the breeze to carry away humidity. It was constructed to house foreign officials following the opening of Tamsui Port to international trade in the eighteen sixties.
