Phra Sumen Fort

Phra Sumen Fort is a snow-white, octagonal tower that stands at the mouth of the Bang Lamphu Canal where it meets the Chao Phraya River. It is one of only two survivors from the original fourteen defensive bastions commissioned by King Rama the First in seventeen eighty-three. The fort was built to protect the newly established capital after the destruction of Ayutthaya, designed with thick brick and stucco walls to store ammunition and house cannons intended to repel naval invasions.
