Khaosan Road is a four hundred and ten meter strip in the Phra Nakhon District, distinguished by its dense concentration of neon-lit bars, travel agencies, and street food vendors. The street was constructed in eighteen ninety-two during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, or Rama the Fifth. Its name translates to milled rice, a reference to the area’s origins as a commercial hub for rice merchants who once traded agricultural goods near the nearby canals.
