Shemsi Ahmet Pasha Mosque

The Shemsi Ahmet Pasha Mosque sits directly on the Bosphorus waterfront in Üsküdar, with its pale stone walls positioned so close to the strait that the water often laps against the foundations. Built in fifteen eighty by the architect Mimar Sinan, the structure is notably small for a commission from a grand vizier. Its L-shaped layout and compact design demonstrate how Sinan adapted the complex to the edge of the shoreline, incorporating a mosque, a madrasa, and a tomb into a single, seamless volume.
