The Yeni Valide Mosque is distinguished by the unique, birdcage-like tomb of Emetullah Râbi'a Gülnûş Sultan, located within its walled grounds. Its mesh roof was designed to allow rain to water the garden below while keeping birds out. Built between seventeen oh eight and seventeen ten, this eighteenth-century imperial mosque was commissioned by Sultan Ahmed the Third to honor his mother.
