Ahşap Evler

The Ahşap Evler, or wooden houses, of Kuzguncuk are defined by their narrow facades, vibrant colors, and protruding bay windows. These structures, largely dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, are typically two or three stories tall and sit directly against the street, leaving their private gardens hidden in the back. This layout turns the street itself into a shared living space for the neighborhood, with each house distinguished from its neighbor by its unique, often contrasting exterior paint.
