Gas Works Park is defined by the rusted, towering steel skeletons of a former coal gasification plant that rise above the north shore of Lake Union. This nineteen-acre site houses the last remaining remnants of a coal gasification facility in the United States, which operated from nineteen oh six until nineteen fifty-six. After the plant shut down and the city converted to natural gas, the property sat abandoned for years.
