Sint-Salvatorskathedraal

Sint-Salvatorskathedraal is recognized by a distinctive, fortress-like tower that transitions from dark, heavy Romanesque stone at its base to a lighter nineteenth-century spire. Though it currently serves as the cathedral of Bruges, the building began in the tenth century as a common parish church. It only gained its official status in eighteen thirty-four, after the French occupiers destroyed the city’s original cathedral, Sint-Donaaskathedraal, during the late eighteenth century.
