Jan van Eyckplein

Jan van Eyckplein is a roughly triangular public square defined by its bronze statue of the painter Jan van Eyck, who stands on a high bluestone plinth with his palette in hand. Located where the Spiegelrei canal meets the older commercial quarter of Bruges, the square is framed by historic buildings like the Poortersloge, a late fourteenth and early fifteenth-century structure with a slender tower and stepped gable that once served as a meeting place for wealthy merchants.
