Burghers’ Lodge

The Burghers’ Lodge is marked by a slender stone tower and an upright bear statue standing in a corner niche, clutching a shield. Built between thirteen ninety-five and fourteen seventeen, this structure served as the meeting place for the city’s commercial elite, the poorters. Its location was chosen for its proximity to the water, where traders moored their vessels and unloaded goods before completing business deals in the lodge.
