Walplein

Walplein is a tree-shaded, cobblestone square in Bruges that takes its name from the city's first defensive walls, which were constructed nearby in the late twelfth century. While the fortifications have long since vanished, the square remains defined by the presence of the De Halve Maan brewery. This family-run business has occupied the site since eighteen fifty-six, and it is the last active brewery remaining within the city's historic center.
