Suvilahti is recognizable by its two massive gasholders, one made of steel and the other encased in brick, which stand as monuments to Helsinki’s industrial past. Built between nineteen oh eight and nineteen ten, this site originally served as the city’s primary power and gas plant. The structures were designed by architect Selim A. Lindqvist and engineer Jalmar Castrén, who utilized then-revolutionary reinforced concrete techniques to house the coal-fired machinery that powered the city's early expansion.
