Karhupuisto

Karhupuisto, or Bear Park, is a small triangular green space in the Kallio district, instantly recognizable by the red granite statue of a bear stooping over an anthill. Unveiled in nineteen thirty-one, the sculpture was created by artist Jussi Mäntynen, a former taxidermist at the University of Helsinki. His work is known for anatomical precision, and this bear, which inspired the park's current name in nineteen fifty-six, reflects a traditional Finnish reverence for the animal as a symbol of strength.
