The Parliament House in Helsinki is recognizable by its heavy, cubic form and the fourteen massive Corinthian columns carved from red Kalvola granite that line its façade. Completed in nineteen thirty-one, the building was designed by architect Johan Sigfrid Sirén after he won a nineteen twenty-four competition with a proposal titled Oratoribus, or "for the speakers." It sits on Arkadianmäki hill as the official seat of Finland's two-hundred-member parliament.
