Esplanadi

landmark

Esplanadi is a long, rectangular park defined by two parallel rows of linden trees that create a high, hall-like canopy over its central walkway. Designed by the architect Carl Ludwig Engel and established in eighteen eighteen, this promenade serves as the city’s green spine, stretching between Erottaja Square and the waterfront Market Square. It was originally laid out to provide a firebreak for the city’s wooden buildings while offering a space for public leisure in the style of grand European boulevards.
