Helsinki Cathedral

Helsinki Cathedral is defined by its tall, green central dome surrounded by four smaller domes, rising above the surrounding cityscape. Built between eighteen thirty and eighteen fifty-two, this neoclassical church was originally designed by Carl Ludvig Engel as the centerpiece of Senate Square. It was originally named St. Nicholas Church in honor of Tsar Nicholas the First, who initiated the project while Finland was a Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire.
