Helsinki Old Church

religious

The Helsinki Old Church is a wooden neoclassical building marked by its Doric pillars and a delicate bell tower. Completed in eighteen twenty-six, it was designed by the architect Carl Ludvig Engel. The church sits within a park that residents often call the Plague Park, or Ruttopuisto, because thousands of people who died during the plague epidemic of seventeen ten were buried on the grounds.
