La Petite Ceinture

The Petite Ceinture is a defunct railway line that encircles Paris, identifiable by the stretches of rusted tracks and wild, encroaching greenery that dip below the city street level. Built in stages between eighteen fifty-two and eighteen sixty-nine, the thirty-two-kilometer loop was originally created to connect the city's major train stations and transport freight, before expanding to serve passenger traffic in eighteen sixty-two.
