Place du Colonel Fabien is distinguished by a curved, six-story office building that appears to float above its paved forecourt on short concrete piers. This structure, designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and completed in nineteen seventy-one, serves as the headquarters of the French Communist Party. A prominent white concrete dome, representing the party's meeting chamber, rises out of the ground nearby, creating a sharp contrast with the surrounding urban landscape.
