Porte Saint-Denis

The Porte Saint-Denis is a monumental triumphal arch that rises over the intersection of Rue Saint-Denis and the Grands Boulevards. Built in sixteen seventy-two, this stone structure was commissioned by Louis the Fourteenth to commemorate his military campaigns along the Rhine and in Franche-Comté. Architect François Blondel designed the arch, which stands twenty-five meters high and features sculptures by Michel Anguier on its northern and southern faces.
