The Domaine National du Palais-Royal is distinguished by the two hundred and sixty black-and-white striped marble columns that rise at varying heights across its main courtyard. Known as the Colonnes de Buren, this installation by French artist Daniel Buren was placed here in nineteen eighty-six, creating a sharp modern contrast against the seventeenth-century architecture.
