Musée de l'Orangerie

The Musée de l'Orangerie sits at the edge of the Tuileries Gardens, marked by its long, low profile and a facade that stretches along the Seine. Originally constructed in eighteen fifty-two by architect Firmin Bourgeois, the building served as a greenhouse to shelter the Tuileries Palace's citrus trees during the winter. Over the decades, it functioned as a storage depot and military barracks before its transformation into an art gallery in the early twentieth century.
