The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is distinguished by the bronze chariot and four horses that crown its summit, a centerpiece that faces the Louvre. Built between eighteen oh six and eighteen oh eight, the structure was commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte to commemorate his military victories in the Wars of the Third and Fourth Coalitions. Architects Charles Percier and Pierre François Léonard Fontaine designed the arch, modeling it after the triumphal arches of ancient Rome.
