Hôtel des Invalides

The Hôtel des Invalides is defined by a massive golden dome that rises one hundred and seven meters above the Parisian skyline. King Louis the Fourteenth commissioned the complex in sixteen seventy to serve as a hospital and retirement home for his wounded and elderly soldiers. The site includes a sprawling courtyard and the Dôme des Invalides, a church designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart that later became the resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte.
