Place de la Concorde

The Place de la Concorde is the largest public square in Paris, easily identified by the twenty-three-meter-tall Luxor Obelisk standing at its center. This granite monolith, covered in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, was gifted to France by the Egyptian viceroy and erected here in eighteen thirty-six. The square was originally commissioned in the seventeen fifties to honor King Louis XV, with an equestrian statue of the monarch once occupying the space where the obelisk now rises.
