The Exposition Universelle of nineteen hundred transformed the banks of the Seine into a sprawling fairground that welcomed more than fifty million visitors. Spanning over five hundred acres, the site functioned as a global showcase for the technology and art of the new century. Paris built the ornate Pont Alexandre III, the Grand Palais, and the Petit Palais specifically for the event, alongside a vast moving sidewalk that transported thousands of people around the grounds.
