The Petit Palais stands out for its grand, domed entrance rotunda, which sits prominently between long, symmetrical wings punctuated by tall stone arches. Built for the nineteen hundred Exposition Universelle, the structure was designed by architect Charles Girault to endure long after the world fair concluded. While many temporary exhibition halls were demolished once the event ended, this building was intended to host the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts, an official role it assumed in nineteen oh two.
