Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe stands as a massive limestone arch reaching nearly fifty meters into the sky at the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle. It is identifiable by its sheer scale and the intricate haut-relief sculptures covering its four pillars, which detail military victories and figures from the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods. Napoleon Bonaparte commissioned the monument in eighteen oh six to celebrate the glory of his armies following the Battle of Austerlitz.
