Hotel Gaillard

The Hôtel Gaillard is impossible to miss in the seventeenth arrondissement, distinguished by its red brick walls and slender, peaked turrets that break the uniform grey stone of the surrounding neighborhood. Built between eighteen seventy-eight and eighteen eighty-two, the mansion was designed by architect Jules Février for the banker Émile Gaillard. Gaillard was a dedicated collector of medieval and Renaissance art, and he commissioned this building specifically to act as a private château within the city, drawing inspiration from the architectural details of the Château de Blois in the Loire Valley.
