Église Saint-Augustin

The Église Saint-Augustin rises at the intersection of Boulevard Haussmann and Boulevard Malesherbes, recognizable by a massive dome that reaches eighty meters into the sky. Built between eighteen sixty and eighteen seventy-one, this is the first major church in Paris constructed with a visible metal frame hidden within stone walls. Architect Victor Baltard designed the structure to sit on an unusually shaped, trapezoidal plot of land, which forces the nave to widen significantly as it stretches toward the choir.
