The Hôtel Saint-Florentin stands at the corner of the rue Saint-Florentin and the rue de Rivoli as a massive, stone-faced private mansion built in the neoclassical style. Completed in seventeen sixty-nine for Louis Phélypeaux, the Comte de Saint-Florentin, it reflects the architectural plans of Ange-Jacques Gabriel, who also designed the nearby Place de la Concorde. The mansion features an imposing, sober facade that was intended to harmonize with the grand scale of the neighboring square.
