The Hôtel de Breteuil at number twelve Avenue Foch is a private mansion built in the Rococo Revival style, identifiable by the large first-floor balcony supported by decorative consoles and distinct carved faces, known as mascarons, above its windows. Designed by the architect Ernest Sanson and completed in eighteen ninety-two, it was commissioned for Henri Le Tonnelier, the eighth Marquis de Breteuil, whose family carried a legacy of royal service spanning three centuries.
