Passy Cemetery

Passy Cemetery is marked by its monumental Art Deco entrance, designed by René-Félix Berger in the nineteen thirties, which stands at the end of the Rue du Commandant Schlœsing. Unlike the massive burial grounds that ring the city, this small, intimate necropolis occupies a sliver of land in the sixteenth arrondissement, tucked behind a high retaining wall. Opened in eighteen twenty to replace a local parish graveyard, it occupies a position of quiet elevation that offers views toward the Seine and the iron latticework of the Eiffel Tower.
