The Trocadéro Palace was once a sprawling, eclectic structure defined by two towering, eighty-meter-high spires and a vast, semicircular concert hall. Built for the eighteen seventy-eight Exposition Universelle, the palace sat on the hill of Chaillot with a distinct style that fused Moorish arches with neo-Byzantine domes. Its grand festival hall, which could hold nearly five thousand people, featured a monumental organ built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, the first of its size ever installed in a French concert hall.
