Place Charles de Gaulle

Place Charles de Gaulle is defined by twelve straight avenues that radiate outward to form a star. At the absolute center of this massive traffic junction stands the Arc de Triomphe, a monument commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in eighteen oh six to honor his military victories. The square itself takes its historic name, Place de l'Étoile, from this layout, though it was renamed in nineteen seventy to honor the French president following his death.
